Kuwait Names Sheikh Mishal as New Emir
Kuwait has named a new Emir following the death of Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Sabah.
Following an emergency Cabinet meeting, Sheikh Mishal Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah was named as the Emir of the State of Kuwait.
Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, chaired the cabinet meeting and paid tribute to the late Sheikh Nawaf’s achievements.
He said: “With great sorrow, the Council of Ministers expresses deep condolences with the passing away of our father, leader of our march His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who passed away following a journey of dedication and loyalty to his nation and its people.”
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs and Minister of State for National Assembly Affairs Essa Al-Kanderi, announced that the Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah would be the Emir of the State of Kuwait.
The declaration is in line with the Constitution.

The succession comes after the passing of Sheikh Nawaf.
In a statement carried by state-run news agency KUNA, Amiri Diwan said: “With deep grief and regret, we mourn to the Kuwaiti people, the Arab and Muslim nations and friendly people demise of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah who passed away today Saturday.”
