Saudi Students Excel At ISEF 2024, Claim Nine Special Awards

Saudi Arabia’s young scientists made a notable impact at the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) 2024 in Los Angeles, securing nine special awards across various scientific disciplines. This achievement marks the 18th consecutive year of recognition for Saudi students at the prestigious international competition.

Highlights from the event included impressive performances by Jamal Muhammad Al-Luqmani in materials science, Elias Maho Khan and Layan Al-Qarafi in biomedicine and health sciences, and software systems respectively. Areej bint Abdullah Al-Qarni excelled with two special awards in materials science, while Fatima Al-Shakhs, Lana Al Mazrouei, Abeer Al-Yousef, and Saleh Al-Anqari each earned accolades in environmental engineering, cellular and molecular biology, and chemistry.

Dr. Amal Al-Hazza, secretary-general of the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba), along with the Ministry of Education, expressed pride in the students’ accomplishments. Dr. Al-Hazza emphasized that these achievements are a testament to the Kingdom’s commitment to fostering scientific talent, in alignment with Saudi Vision 2030.

As the Saudi Science and Engineering Team anticipates the announcement of the grand prizes, their total count of special awards at ISEF has reached an impressive 50. The final results are eagerly awaited, with the potential to further elevate Saudi Arabia’s status on the global scientific stage.
